ROOIBOS   (roy-boss)  is also known as Red Tea – and can be your introduction into the world of    “tea-that’s-not-tea”!  Technically an herb, rooibos is not made from the same bush as true tea, but is made from the South African Redbush plant.  Fresh and caffeine-free, Rooibos pleasantly delivers a clean taste from Capetown, South Africa.

Green Rooibos is the less processed version of South African Redbush in its more natural form – ours is USDA Certified Organic.  The natural fermentation and oxidation process is stopped just after the herb is cut.  Grassier than its red counterpart, Green Rooibos has a gentle taste, and allows for great flavors and inclusions to bring its flavor to a peak.

Good for multiple brews and famous for its ability to “gladden the heart,” rooibos is a favorite among nursing and pregnant mothers AND their new infants.  Children love the taste, and are not hyped up with caffeine their little bodies can’t tolerate.

HONEYBUSH is a sibling to rooibos, but sweeter.  Also grown in the Eastern Cape Region of South Africa, honeybush gets its name from the sweet honey taste of its leaves.  Low in tannin, it makes a wonderful herbal alternative to caffeinated teas.

While more studies are needed to verify the health claims South Africans have made for years, we can say – with gusto – that you’ll enjoy the caffeine-free calm and lovely taste of a mug of Rooibos or a glass of iced Honeybush tea.  Hot or cold, plain or flavored, processed or unprocessed.  Browse our list of South African teas to find one that appeals!
