The traditional drink of choice in India, chai is sold on the streets by “chai wallahs,” young boys who mix the pepper, cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves with strong black tea. They typically add buffalo milk and lots of sugar for people passing by, who drink it from an earthenware cup. Part or all of the mixture is cooked together in brass pots to bring out all the spice flavors.

Cottage Garden Teas carries black tea chais blended by authentic Indian Tea Masters, who know the ways of the wallah. Warning: classic chai tea has plenty of caffeine. If that is not YOUR cup of tea, check out our Decaffeinated Chai or Our Spice Garden Rooibos (one of our CGT house blends). Even the wallah would approve!

CHECK OUT OUR CHAI TEA FROM KENYA!

This is Evans, a small tea farmer in Kenya.    Cottage Garden Teas is participating in a program that evans plucking (2)purchases the tea directly from this farm, allowing him to make 2 1/2 times as much as before.  The tea farmers have been trapped in a cycle of poverty that our program solves. Buying direct from the farmer makes his wage sustainable. We asked him, “what will you do with the money?” He said, “send my daughters to school.” His wife answered, “build a house with indoor plumbing.”   P1020902-001Cottage Garden is so excited to be selling Kenyan farmer-direct tea – and its DELICIOUS!
